Experience
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Berry College and a Master of Arts in Education in Curriculum, Instruction, and ESL from the University of Phoenix. I have taught and/or tutored students across a wide range of ages, from five-year-olds to pre-graduate students. I teach primarily in English, but have worked extensively with both native English speakers and students for whom English is a second language. My background in the theater has equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to assist students with public speaking and presentation skills in addition to academic disciplines. I believe that learning is an ongoing process, continuing throughout our lives. Education should integrate a student's individual goals and specific areas of interest. And, the educational approach should take into account a particular student's strengths and weaknesses, so as to ensure that the material is accessible to him or her. In my mind, tutoring is a partnership between teacher and student, and offers the student a unique chance to participate actively in his or her own education and help drive the process and direction. A student is most likely to achieve his or her potential in a safe environment where it is safe to take risks and experiment. I strive to help students develop their strengths in the context of challenging subject matter.
