Experience

I taught high school English for 8 years, and just transitioned to middle school Language Arts this year. I first started my teaching career at a private school and taught 8th- 12th English. For the past 7 years, I have taught in a public school in Virginia. During my time here, I have taught the following courses: English 10, English 11, Communications Skills, Journalism, Pre-AP English Language and Compsition, AP English Language and Compsition, and now, 8th grade Language Arts. I tutor many students one-on-one and in small group settings for the End-of-Course English Reading and Writing Tests (SOL), 8th grade Writing and Reading SOL tests, ACT and SAT tests, and the AP English Language and Composition test. I have experience incorporating technology, hands-on activities, and various strategies in order to reach my students. I am willing to accommodate the students and to change my delivery methods to suit their learning styles and to meet their needs. I am interested in being a tutor because I genuinely have a passion for helping students succeed. I truly enjoy working with students in a tutoring type of environment as it allows them to have personal attention from me.

Hobbies

I am a very active individual, and I love to watch and play sports. At the high school where I was teaching, I coached volleyball and track and field. I coach cross country and track and field at the middle school level now. Of course, I love to read in my spare time. I also love to cook in order to relax. I am one of fifteen children, which has made life very interesting! I get along with all personalities due to my family's array of personalities. Challenges do not intimidate me, and I am willing to go that extra mile.
